Team England National Squad (TENS)

Shooting

TENS was formed to train and select teams to represent England at various Championships and is regarded as the way forward for our sport.

The concept of TENS first originated after the Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur 1998. It was felt, by the then management team, that a formal squad was required in order to gain funding to best prepare teams to enhance the medal prospects for future Commonwealth Games.

The process was a long one with the first squad not being formed until September 2004 and even then without any funding in place. Fortunately this became available in the October of 2004. The first squad was formed with the view of selecting the team to represent England at the Commonwealth Shooting Federation Championships in March 2005. This proved to be a very successful Championships with the Smallbore section winning 10 medals out of the overall England total of 18.

Since then the Smallbore section contributed 10 of the 19 medals that our overall shooting team won at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games. This was more medals than the shooting team had ever won before.
